“A transformation, triggered by the completion of the Great Cycle has already taken place, signalled by a shift in the resonating frequency; this shift announces the end of the Great Cycle and gives a premonition of the brilliance of our galactic, solar and planetary reality in the following era which begins with 2012 AD … Our planet thus enters into its next evolutionary phase, securing itself a place as a new member of the galactic community.”
—José Argüelles, The Mayan Factor
The biosphere-noosphere transition marks the point when the consciousness of the planet goes from the cosmic unconscious to the cosmic conscious. This is a specific geological-evolutionary event-point that coincides with the prophetic cycle: 1987-2013.
This is a pivotal moment in the history of the universe as well. Theologically, it is known as the end of the sixth day of creation, and the beginning of the seventh – or, the Second Creation. Practically, it is referred to as the road to 2012. This refers to the interpenetration of the fourth dimension into the third dimension.
This moment was first defined and foreseen jointly by V.I. Vernadsky, the Russian scientist whose geochemical whole systems work defined the biosphere, and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, French Jesuit paleontologist. Together, they coined the word in Paris, 1926.
For both, the noosphere (mental sheathe of the planet) was the result of a critical point of terrestrial evolution. For Vernadsky, this point is defined by the crisis he called “biogeochemical combustion.” This refers to the impact of industrial technologies and civilization on the resources and cycles of the biosphere bringing it to a fever-pitch of crisis, resulting in a qualitative shift into the noosphere and the beginning of the psychozoic era.
For Teilhard de Chardin, the noosphere is preceded by the elaboration of a planetary information network, which then also becomes the last material-technological rite of passage before reaching an “Omega point,” This Omega point, also associated with the mystical body of Christ, is the entrance of humanity, and the planet, into the noosphere, the One Mind of Earth.
The discovery of the Law of Time affirms that both Vernadsky’s and Teilhard de Chardin’s criteria for the biosphere-noosphere transition have converged. The Law of Time also makes the timing of the transition precise – 1987-2013.
