Preamble: Increasingly, 2012 comes to people’s consciousness as a decisive year for the present trend of world events. Even the Kyoto Protocol gives 2012 as a critical deadline for the lowering of green house gas emissions. The meaning of this year stems from the Mayan calendar system which pinpoints the Gregorian date December 21, 2012, as the conclusion of a number of significant cycles, including the 5,125-year “cycle of history” which began August 13, BC 3113. 

Given the trends of all the current world problems - global warming, terrorism, poverty, overpopulation, AIDs, urbanization, ozone depletion, deforestation, drugs and social alienation - 2012 is the perfect deadline to consider humanity’s next step - Universal Peace. People keep saying, “maybe in the next generation,” not realizing that a careful study of all current trends shows that we have run out of time for the luxury of such thinking.  Something must be done NOW. In an emergency, you take extraordinary measures. 

2012 is the Closing of the Cycle. The date exists as a warning to all humanity. You must do something simple and radical - now. It can be done. We mobilize for world war with no problem - America’s military budget is currently being boosted by an additional 300 billion dollars. We are so busy running from our own shadow that we have forgotten how to consider the positive on a global scale. Let us dare to think that we can bring about Universal Peace by 2012. Then let us envision the steps each one of us can and must take to see it happen. This is a spiritual prescription, because peace is a spiritual state of mind. Peace is the spiritual essence of the universe. That is why the way can be so simple:

1. I admit that there is a higher power, and knowing that, on a daily basis, I submit my whole self to that power that I may become a pure vessel of peace. 

2. Since all comes from the mind, the good and the bad that I experience, I vow to know and take responsibility for my own mind, to cease to engage in dualism of any kind that always leads to some kind of war, and, instead, to practice mindfulness training and so discover the true nature of peace in my own mind. 

3. Through knowing mind, I know that peace is the nature of the universe. It is I alone who perpetuate whatever state of mind I may experience. Therefore, I forgive all whom I think have hurt me that my mind may merge into universal peace without rancor for any being or aspect of existence whatsoever. 

4. Based on universal forgiveness, in which I acknowledge my own wrongs and ask forgiveness of all those whom I might have wronged, may I cultivate the attitude of universal compassion, sympathy and love for every being and all of existence that peace may be established as the essential bond between myself and all that is. 

5. Acknowledging that this is the Closing of the Cycle, I recognize that it is my evolutionary responsibility to escape from my lower self and assume my cosmic essence. In this way may I transcend the old cycle of unconsciousness, war and self-destruction, and enter the new cycle of consciousness and constructive peace - the second creation and the coming of cosmic civilization on Earth. 

6. The Closing of the Cycle is an evolutionary shift - the Biosphere-Noosphere transition. To assist in this shift, I vow to take the simple, evolutionary step of reformulating the human mind by adopting for daily use the Thirteen Moon/28-day calendar. In this way, by replacing the old irregular standard of the Gregorian calendar with a perfect harmonic standard, may we establish the noosphere through the New Time of universal peace. 

7. Through the Great Calendar Change undertaken by the peoples of the Earth, I accept and promote the paradigm shift from the values of “time is money” to “time is art.” To promote understanding of the New Time and its values worldwide, I support the continuing development of a nonsectarian, non-nationalistic, all-inclusive Planet Art Network. In this way, may the New Time of peace be expanded through a planetary network of peace. 

8. Peace through Culture: “Where there is peace there is culture. Where there is culture there is peace.” (N. K. Roerich) Recognizing that the Banner of Peace exists as the basis of an internationally recognized peace pact, I vow to use, display, uphold and support this Banner as representing a principle of peace that is bound by no state, nor even the notion of nation states, but is a truly boundaryless herald of Universal Peace. 

9. Based on the Banner of Peace as a non-nationalistic instrument of “peace through culture,” I support the formation of Rainbow Bridge Peace Brigades to be trained in conflict resolution and humanistic cross-cultural dialogue who will be willing to engage the perpetrators of violence, whether state-sanctioned or terrorist, thereby establishing a new force and forum for peacemaking in the world. 

10. Calendar change is the opportunity for peace. To assure that the transition from the current world calendar to the new global civil standard of Thirteen Moons/28-days occurs in a peaceable and creative manner, I call for and support a universal, multilateral ceasefire world wide. Respecting all other calendars and the traditions which they represent, I support such a cease fire as the first step, under the Banner of Peace, to establish a truly New Time of peace, and ask that all groups interested in universal peace cooperate in this unique effort. 

11. To support the new forms of peacemaking, I endorse the creation of a non-nationalistic global congress based on the self-evident truth of the Earth’s biosphere as the living reality of all of life in its mutual interdependence. Organized by bioregional representation, with all due speed, may a Biospheric Congress be convened to supervise the New Time of peace, with justice and equality for all. To assure its spiritual intentions, may this new Congress be coordinated by a Noospheric Assembly of spiritual elders and wisdom holders from all traditions and walks of life. 

12. To establish a positive vision of world peace and bring about a permanent peaceful change to the world, I fully support the rainbow bridge meditation, as well as all efforts to manifest the Circumpolar Rainbow Bridge as a planetary reality by 2012. In this way, may the world soul be nurtured by a new image of world peace, and may the evolutionary shift be sealed by a permanent circumpolar rainbow, the outer sign of an inner reality in which war is no longer a human option. 

13. Love is the answer. Where there is hatred may I sow love. Where there is rancor, may I answer with love. Where there is violence may I be an instrument of love. Understanding that love is at the root of all of our emotions, and that everyone was once a child in need of more love, may I expand my heart in universal love for all beings. Peace is the Way. Love is the Answer.
